Therapeutic Ultrasound

is a treatment modality commonly used in Physiotherapy.

Three potential effects of Ultrasound

  1. A decrease in pain from the reduction of swelling & edema.
  2. Increased blood flow in the treated area.
  3. Gentle massage of tendons & ligaments in the treated area.

Therapeutic Ultrasound is used primarily for 2 different effects.

  • Deep Heating treatment.

Provide deep heating to tendons, muscles, or ligaments to increase circulation to tissue which is thought to help the healing process. Increasing tissue temperature with ultrasound is also used to help decreased pain.

  • Non- Thermal Effects ( Cavitation)

Improves the healing of injured tissue.
